Of all the definitions of Perseverance in various dictionaries – my favourite would be “The quality that allows someone to continue trying to do something even though it is difficult” – simple and appropriate.
And equally simply I would define Lifestyle as “The way a person lives. ”
Nothing can replace persistence. Education can’t – as there are so many educated who are jobless, talented actors & artistes – who never bag any movie roles, people with amazing business ideas – who perhaps only recommend and dream, and then people with sharp minds and a brilliant hold on the written word – who don’t leave behind any literary wisdom and body of work, and then there are the unrewarded geniuses.
May be persistence and determination are the missing factors here; failure and temporary defeat are part of every journey and certainly do not define the future, in fact these elements can be looked upon as just part of the path, an accepted accessory to any achievement. Attitude determines how successful we can be in life.
Let’s look at some of the common factors that can contribute to maintaining a successful lifestyle – personal, social, & work related when practised regularly.
Personal – Physical exercise, good sleep, consistency in maintaining good relationships, flexible & clear thinking, the ability to appreciate art & nature, self- discipline & enjoying the process.
Work – Clear plan & goals, maintaining motivation, keeping updated, allotting deadlines & time frames for tasks at hand, scheduling priorities, and overriding stagnation.
Lifestyle – Well maintained & neat home, periodic vacations, the pursuit of relaxation, balance between luxuries and giving back to society.
If we take adversity in our stride, learn to accept the detours along the way, refrain from comparing our lives with others’ lives and persevere on our chosen path success will be our destiny.
“To succeed, you must have tremendous perseverance, tremendous will. ‘I will drink the ocean,’ says the persevering soul; ‘at my will mountains will crumble up.’ Have that sort of energy, that sort of will; work hard, and you will reach the goal.”
